Food is the New Fashion

Food and fashion are two important factors for being “on top” of today’s society. People have tried for years to figure out how to incorporate food into fashion. Putting a picture of actual food onto a shirt, or pants doesn’t count. Creating these types of things is so simple; although these are still super popular today, we want something that takes a little more thought. They use things like textures, colors, and styles to incorporate food into fashion. It makes fashion relatable and likable.

Shoes are a huge part of today’s fashion. Shoe companies have been taking on the challenge of creating a food incorporated shoe. New Balance teamed up with J. Crew to create the new, limited edition “butterscotch” tennis shoe. The color that they used for the shoe is a medium brown color, which is very unusual for the color of a shoe. Making the shoe inspired for the candy and naming it “butterscotch” allowed them to use that color and still be socially acceptable. Cause, let me tell you, it’s not a cute color.

It’s not just New Balance and J. Crew. Even Nike has jumped into the bandwagon! Nike just released a new shoe that brings back old memories from childhood. They created the KD&PBJ shoe. It’s designed to look like a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, incorporating the color of peanut butter, and the color of grape jelly. I think that since Nike is doing it, more people will start doing the same, as Nike is one of the higher-end shoes, that most everyone loves; this is a lot of people’s go-to shoe. Since Nike is a trendsetter, more shoe companies will start incorporating food into their shoes.

Jeremy Scott of Moschino (a high-end fashion store) has taken it to a new level. He incorporates brand logos and colors into his clothing. He’s used modern pop culture and food to create a new type of fashion. He’s launching a new line at The House of Moschino. He’s the first person to make McDonald’s workers ACTUALLY look good. When you see this, you don’t picture a gross, greasy, smell. You picture more of an elegant, clean-cut, home-made McDonald’s burger. You will never think of McDonald’s the same way again after seeing this on the runway!
This is a new way to express things you like and show that you’re “in”. These things are fairly new, so jump on the bandwagon now before it’s too late! I’m extremely excited to see more food incorporated fashion in the near future. Let’s see what people can come up with!
