Thrift shopping is one skill many people with this sort of style should master. Not only is it cheap, but it’s unique and fun!

Top 5 Tips

Know what you’re looking for. If you walk into a store with no idea of what you're looking for, then you could end up spending much more than you budgeted for or looking around for hours and not finding anything. If you have at least one or two things in mind your outing will have more focus and you'll feel more successful.

Keep an open mind. The possibilities are endless for every item in a thrift store. If you need a bookshelf but can't find the perfect color of wood, then think about repurposing it. You can make something completely your own with a fresh coat of paint or some new hardware. Or with clothes, just envision what exactly you could wear it with to look best.

Pay attention to condition. It can be tempting to buy something just because it’s pretty and it fits but if it is in bad shape that you can’t fix or clean, DO NOT buy it!

Know where to shop. There are a lot of thrift store and resale options besides Goodwill and the Salvation Army. Remember that the larger stores can be overpriced, too. Research your area and find the smaller resale stores that should have competitive pricing. Also shop your local Craigslist and yard sales for goodies.

Set a budget. Keep in mind that some items are overpriced and you should just walk away. If thrifters pay that top dollar, prices will raise across the board.
