History Repeats

The 80s movies we re-watch over and over, have a lot to contribute to the style we have now. The 80s was a time for directors and wardrobe stylists to get creative. Big hair, fanny packs, layering chains and scrunchies. Now when you think of those things do you think of your mom in 1983 or yourself in 2018? The answer is both! We have developed our fashion trends from many of the cinematic characters before us.

I have found that in these movies, the outfit a character is wearing says a lot about their personality. This was also a time where girls felt less sheltered and just wore whatever they want. In 2018, I think that is what every woman is going for. “This is how I am and you can take it or leave it”, without actually saying so.

These ideas we get from movies are often minor versions of what you see today. You can find a lot of the same pieces at antique stores and thrift stores for cheap. Designers have started to pick up on this and will include 80s inspired looks in their runways.
